How it works How SMS fabric works Cross-section of the three fabric layers. Fine dust on the outside is caught by the dense meltblown middle layer. Air and body vapor pass through to the inside. OUTSIDE INSIDE · WEARER Fine dust stopped in the middle layer Spunbond Spunbond Meltblown: fine fibers that trap particles Air and vapor pass through
The meltblown layer is a mat of very fine fibers. Dust gets caught in it, while air still moves through the layers.
Where it fits

Jobs this coverall is built for

Attic insulation removal

Fiberglass, mineral wool and cellulose fibers cling to clothes and skin. SMS keeps fibers off and stays cooler than film suits. Pair with our removal bags.

Dry demolition and tear-out

Drywall, plaster and framing dust on restoration and remodeling jobs. Restoration guide

Sanding and paint prep

Sanding dust and surface prep in collision and refinishing work. Automotive guide

Plant maintenance

Dusty maintenance, cleaning and shutdown work where a plain dirt suit isn't enough. Industrial guide

Dusty food-plant work

Contractors doing dusty work near production, such as ceiling and duct cleaning. Food processing guide

Know the limits

  • Not a liquid barrier. SMS sheds only a light splash. For splash, use the Microporous Coverall.
  • Not for infectious agents or hazardous liquids.
  • Not flame resistant. Do not wear near open flame, sparks, welding or other hot work.
  • A coverall is one part of your PPE. For fiber and fine dust, choose a respirator suited to the hazard.
Questions

SMS coverall FAQ

What does SMS stand for?

Spunbond, meltblown, spunbond: three nonwoven polypropylene layers bonded together. The two outer spunbond layers give strength and the fine meltblown layer in the middle filters particles.

Is SMS better than polypropylene?

For fine dust, yes. SMS catches finer dry particles and holds up better. Polypropylene is lighter, cooler and cheaper, so it wins for dirt, grime and visitor use.

When should I choose microporous instead?

When liquid is involved. SMS is a dry-dust fabric. The microporous coverall adds a film layer that stops light liquid splash, at the cost of more heat build-up.

Which coverall is best for removing attic insulation?

SMS or polypropylene, hooded, with boots. Insulation work is dry and hot, so breathability matters. In the hottest attics, the Vent Coverall adds a breathable back panel. See our insulation guide.

Can we try it before ordering?
